New Release: Art Don’t Lie (2026)
Joshua Moshe announces Art Don’t Lie – a bold, contemporary jazz release blending improvisation, Jewish folk and rhythm traditions with electronic sound worlds.
Award-winning Melbourne saxophonist and composer Joshua Moshe announces the release of Art Don’t Lie, a genre-defining contemporary jazz album where improvisation, electronic textures, and Jewish folk and rhythmic traditions converge into a cinematic and rhythm-driven sound world.
Since stepping away from a band persona in 2022 (JK GROUP) and leaving La Sape Records after Inner Search in 2023, the album represents his first fully independent release - a significant artistic milestone granting complete creative control across composition, production, artwork and presentation, and capturing a body of work shaped without external constraints.
Recorded across 2023–2024 with an eight-piece ensemble of leading Australian and international musicians, Art Don’t Lie moves fluidly between expansive ensemble writing and improvisation. The result is a deeply personal yet outward-facing work, grounded in lineage, migration and tradition while pushing into contemporary jazz, groove and electronic production.
At its core is a powerhouse ensemble including UK/NZ drummer Myele Manzanza, whose dynamic and fluid playing brings rhythmic depth and elasticity to the record, alongside long-time collaborator and producer Lewis Moody, who shapes the album’s sonic architecture through production and mixing.
Across eight tracks (including two digital-only pieces), Art Don’t Lie unfolds as a cinematic cycle — each piece allowing space for improvisation, dialogue, and collective expression. Acoustic ensemble performance is layered with synthesis, percussion traditions, oud, clarinet, vocals, saxophone and textured sound design.
The album includes the singles Art Don’t Lie, Binah and Vessel, which preview its broader sonic palette.
“This record represents the culmination of a years-long process of shedding layers of influence to find a deeper, more honest expression of myself. It’s the most open and personal music I’ve made, and I’m incredibly proud of it.” — Joshua Moshe
Inner Search (2023)
The first release from Joshua Moshe under his own name, recorded 6 months after concluding chemotherapy and conceived as a unique tour de force traversing contemporary jazz, modal jazz, breakbeats, Afro-Cuban, Hip-Hop, and spiritual jazz across 10 moving tracks.

“Part synth-inspired, part spiritual jazz-inspired, there’s really very little else to compare this progressive and bold sonic soundscape with.”
